June 29, 2003 Tulsa, Oklahoma Convention Report by Isabel Archer |
|
| Two days
after my Twentieth birthday I bought the biggest birthday present
to myself. I bought a ticket to my first Star Trek convention in Tulsa,
Oklahoma. I live in Oklahoma City which is two hours south west of there
and it was my first solo excursion and all to see the gorgeous Dominic
Keating. I mean after three signed pictures and two letters how could I
not see the man who inspired me to try and become an actress again. (Not
to mention his birthday being only six days after mine.
I arrived in the morning and set off to see all the sites. The other guests that were there included: William Shattner, Lenord Nimoy, Walter Koenig, Gorge Takei, Chase Masterson, Wil Wheaton, and even the man who plays Admiral Paris. ( The name slips my mind at this time.) There were many events going on. One of them you had the opportunity to take pictures with the featured guests so I got my ticket to get my picture with Dominic. Until it was time for pictures I wondered around the center checking out the displays and watching a few people up on stage. When the time for pictures came I was the first in line. I talked with one of the staff while waiting and she was telling me that Dominic was in the elevator two nights ago in black attire, in which he looked really good and, had attended the Dinner With the Stars on Friday night. (I don’t know who was more nervous her or me.) He came out from behind the curtain after a quick restroom break and was asked if he wanted to sign next to his picture on a car which they had various other pictures and signatures. After signing, Dominic held up the pen he used and they snapped a picture. When I went up to get my picture I was so nervous (Due to the lack of sleep more than anything else) that I was really hesitant about going up there next to him. He said: “It’s alright Darling I won’t hurt you .” I managed to make my legs move so I could sit next to him. After the picture I told him that I thought I’d never be able to meet him and, for a small while it was true I had thought that. While I was waiting for my picture I snapped a few pictures of Dominic. He was defiantly paying attention to us for he poked a little fun at me by imitating my nerves. Well due to the small amount of people who wanted a picture with him, Dominic agreed to sign everybody’s pictures as they printed. I was first up again. Dominic had gotten to see the picture before me and as I sat own he says: “We look petty great together, Don’t we?” He asked my name so he could personalize my picture. As he signed the picture I told him “It’s not everyday you get to meet your inspiration.” He paused during writing on my picture. When I got up he asked me if I would like a little kiss on the cheek. (What woman wouldn’t resist?) I bent over and he gave me a small kiss in the cheek. He is so sweet! I will warn any fan who’s ever read the convention reports, They will not prepare you for how wild Dominic is. He is completely full of energy and funny as hell. While up on stage he said that Oklahoma, (Well at least Tulsa) lacked his two favourite things: “Tattoos and adultery.” Of course, with exception to my tattoos. J He told the story about how he was in directing school and how his first project was going to be on Scott Backula’s ( Captain Archer) son Charlie. He also went into his story about being cast and about his now peachy life. I struck again with being first in line to ask him a question. I asked him what he would like to see happen to his character, and he said: “Well he needs to get laid more!”One of the girls whom I had made friend with had asked him for a hug and he obliged. Of course after that several more hugs followed. A woman who had apparently watched the Stargate special, asked a question that Richard Dean Anderson had prompted with one of his statements. A few questions were asked about business and then they had to wrap things up. A while after he was gone and off stage I caught him taking a peak around and as much as I would have liked I didn’t get to ask him a few small things I had wanted to because he wanted a quiet smoke before catching his flight back. All in all I have to say it was the best day in my entire life. Dominic was just super sweet and I would love to be his fan forever. |
